More Rumored Details From Marvel's Doctor Strange Emerge
Later this month the Cinema Blend team will once again be traveling down to San Diego, California where we plan to thoroughly cover the annual San Diego Comic Con. We expect to see new footage from highly-anticipated upcoming films like The Hunger Games: Catching Fire and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, but we expect the real showstopping act will be the Marvel Studios panel. In the last few years the folks at the comic book movie studio have managed to blow the roof off of the convention center's famous Hall H auditorium, not only showing off exclusive clips from upcoming titles, but also revealing big news about their future plans. Last summer we were in the crowd when they officially announced Guardians of the Galaxy and showed off test footage from Edgar Wright's Ant-Man. We expect big things from this year's presentation, and part of that is anticipating some kind of announcement about plans for the Doctor Strange movie.
In January Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirmed that the company was basing one of their films from the upcoming Phase Three of their Marvel Cinematic Universe, and since then we've managed to pick up small details here and there about the project. Recently we've heard rumors about the movie's potential villains, but a huge scoop landed last week when Latino Review was able to provide a heavily detailed description of the beginning of the story. The video they posted at the time was promised to be only part one of the reveal, and today as you can see above, they unleashed part two. In case you missed the first video, you can also watch it below - but be warned that what's inside could contain spoilers.
Thomas Donnelly and Joshua Oppenheimer, who wrote iffy films such as Sahara, Dylan Dog: Dead of Night, and the Conan The Barbarian remake, wrote the script that LR's information is coming from, but we are still waiting to hear about what other names will be getting involved with the project. Could we possibly learn the identity of a director or a star at this year's Comic Con? There's also a very real possibility that we will learn the film's official release date, which could be on May 6, 2016, July 18, 2016 or May 5, 2017 (three dates that the studio recently claimed on the future release calendar).
What we do know is that Marvel has been confirmed for a slot during Comic Con, and have announced that they will be bringing castmembers, filmmakers and footage from both Thor: The Dark World and Captain America: The Winter Soldier to Hall H (I guess anything from Guardians of the Galaxy will just be a surprise). Be sure to stay tuned here on Cinema Blend for all of the latest Marvel news as the puzzle pieces continue to come together.
