Neighborhood Watch Teaser Trailer Boasts Child Harassment But No Aliens
At first glance, Neighborhood Watch looks like your average dudes-being-dudes comedy, with Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, Ben Stiller and Richard Ayoade starring a guys who deem themselves the local neighborhood watch. And if you watch the new teaser trailer, which premiered today at IMDB, you'd probably get that sense as well-- it's a teaser, so we really just see the guys cruising the neighborhood and terrorizing a local kid, all in the name of "duty." But there's a sci-fi twist to the movie, in which the guys accidentally discover an alien plot to destroy the world. So keep that in mind as you watch the trailer, in case you find yourself underwhelmed. The trailer, stupidly, isn't embeddable, so you'll have to click the player image below to see it for yourself.
With his Oscar nomination, 21 Jump Street coming in a few weeks and this movie opening July 27, Jonah Hill is having a hell of a year. And he's in good company too-- as sick as you may be of some of the nonsense Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn has made, they're more than balanced out by the likes of British import Ayoade (of The IT Crowd and director of Submarine) and the talent behind the screen. With a script from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg and directing from Akiva Schaffer, who cut his teeth with the Lonely Island shorts on SNL, there's a lot of funny people coming into this movie from a lot of different directions. You've got to like at least one person working on this, and with a premise so promising as well, there's a lot to pin hopes on here.
Fox has also debuted the film's first poster which you can see below. I'm aware that no one really knows who Richard Ayoade is in the U.S., but it's still a crime his name has been left off entirely. Aside from that, it's a pretty nice teaser-- and unlike the trailer, actually does hint at the alien action that's to come later on.
