Owen Wilson And Woody Harrelson Are Turkeys
I love a good kids movie, but have given up on almost every animated film that doesn't open with a little animated desk lamp hoping onto the screen (with the exception of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs which was wholly hilarious.) Unfortunately, we may be in store for a slew of sub-par computer generated films made cheaply and quickly. Always a great formula to follow if you're looking to make a high quality film (/sarcasm).
Accordiing to Variety, Bedrock Studios is looking to start cranking out family films for under a $35 million price tag, the first of which will be Turkeys. The film will follow two turkeys who travel back in time to the very first Thanksgiving in order to try to keep themselves and their brethren from becoming the main course. Signed on already are Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson to play the leads, and as much as it's been proven that Woody Harrelson makes any film better, the premise for Turkeys sounds so weak that even he might not be able to save it.
The film will be directed by Ash Brannon which means Turkeys will surely be advertised as "From the Director of Toy Story 2". That's all well and good, but his only work since that 1999 release was Surf's Up in '07. And we all know how well that went.
Bedrock has three more films in its sights --The Rats of NIHM, A Wrinkle in Time, and Dinosaur Bob-- that it will try to follow the same, cheap formula while hoping for a quick turnaround and a high yield at the box office. But isn't that always the goal? We'll be able to see just how well Bedrock's plan will unfold when Turkeys is released in 2011, but don't get your hopes up.
