Paranormal Activity Creator Oren Peli's New Horror Project Announces Start Of Production![]()
In 2007 filmmaker Oren Peli made a tiny, micro-budget film called Paranormal Activity. Though the movie only cost $15,000, starred actors nobody had ever heard of, and largely consisted of a single camcorder filming in nightvision, it was picked up for distribution in 2009 and ended up making millions upon millions of dollars and spawning two sequels. The movie has turned Peli into one of the biggest names in Hollywood horror and in addition to producing both Paranormal Activity 2 and 3 he served behind the scenes on James Wan's Insidious. Now he's hard at work helping another filmmaker shepherd a new project to the big screen.
It has been announced that the Untitled Oren Peli Project has officially begun shooting today in Eastern Europe with first-time director Brad Parker at the helm. The project is based on an original screenplay by Peli and is being produced by the Paranormal Activity filmmaker as well as Brian Witten (Dark City, Final Destination, Friday The 13th). Set in a post-apocalyptic future caused by a nuclear disaster, a group of friends struggle to survive in an abandoned city that nature has begun to claim back. But after the sun sets, the friends begin to hear inhuman sounds and discover that they aren't actually alone. The cast largely consists of new faces including Jonathan Sadowski, Devin Kelley, Jesse McCartney, Olivia Taylor Dudley, Nathan Phillips, Ingrid Bolso Berdal and Dimitri Diatchenko. Talking about the group of actors, Witten said, "I really couldn’t be happier with our cast. We've brought together a group of fresh, talented young actors and they're all getting ready to give us nightmares! In the best possible way!" Peli introduced himself as a new vision for the horror genre when Paranormal Activity was released on October 2009. Let's see if he can keep it going. |
