Paul Verhoeven is back and apparently this time around he wants to show us how to have sex with ghosts. According to Deadline, the director has signed on to make Eternal, a supernatural thriller. In the film, a recovering alcoholic saves a woman who is threatening to jump off a bridge, and after he is able to coax her down, they end up sleeping with each other. Upon returning home, however, his wife and a hired private investigator show him photos of him not having an affair, but drinking in a bar. The man believes he is going crazy until he discovers that the woman he saved was a ghost trying to steal his soul. The script was originally written by David Loughery, who wrote the Idris Elba/Beyonce/Ali Larter film Obsessed, but with Verhoeven coming on to the project, he is having his writer, Richard D’Ovidio, do a rewrite.
What I am frankly amazed by is that the log line you read above isn't the entire film. Michael Bay makes three hours movies with less plot than that. Descriptions like that generally only cover 25-30% of the film, so I can't even imagine where the story goes from there. Maybe the ghost will get a job working as a dancer in Vegas before shipping off to Klendathu to stab Johnny Rico with an icepick. It's Verhoeven, so you really never can tell. Back to top
