Peter Sollett May Direct Generic Romantic Comedy, Anne Hathaway Offered Lead Role![]()
Hollywood loves making the same movie over and over again, and I'm not just talking about remakes, sequels, prequels, reboots, homages or re-adaptations. I'm talking about the industry's propensity for using the same idea over and over again until it's dead as Dillinger. The perfect example of this is the romantic comedy in which a workaholic female lead has to choose between her career and the man of her dreams. We've seen that movie at least a thousand times already, and now its coming back once again.
Nick and Norah's Infinate Playlist director Peter Sollett is now in talks to direct an untitled romantic comedy for Lionsgate and an offer is out to Anne Hathaway for the staring role. Should Sollett sign on it will be only his third feature film and first since 2008. According to THR, the incredibly generic logline sets up the plot as being about "a career woman looking to break her streak of losing romantic relationships to her job." The script was written by 30 Rock writer Kay Cannon (when you think about it, the show has this exact same premise), who also scripted the upcoming a cappella comedy Pitch Perfect. Just to illustrate my point, I Don't Know How She Does It, a comedy starring Sarah Jessica Parker, is set to come out next week. The film is about a workoholic woman who is doing her best to manage makes both her professional and personal life co-exist. This is no joke: Hollywood is completely devoid of ideas. |
