Planet Of The Apes Prequel Turns To Second-Tier Directors

After telling us a few weeks ago that the Planet of the Apes reboot was underway and with producer Peter Chernin in charge, New York Magazine is reporting that the project has hit a small speedbump on the way toward getting made: actually finding someone to direct it.

Chernin started by aiming high, going to Kathryn Bigelow, Robert Rodriguez, and Let the Right One In director Tomas Alfredson. Unsurprisingly, all of them said no (did he really think Bigelow would take on a project so guaranteed to get attacked?), and now it's on to the second tier of directors who have all had schlocky but profitable movies come out in the last year or so. Offers have gone out to the Hughes brothers (The Book of Eli), Pierre Morel (Taken), James McTeigue (Ninja Assassin), Dennis Iliadis (The Last House on the Left) and Scott Stewart (Legion).

The script is called Caesar, which is pretty much all anyone knows about it, though I guess now we can assume it takes place on the Ides of March and involves someone stabbing an ape in a very public location. You don't really need me to tell you that this continues to be a horrible idea, so I'll just repeat Vulture's joke: Uwe Boll, it's time to make your move.
