So while Disney figures out what it wants to do with Lucasfilm now that it owns them and doesn't reveal any concrete details about who will be handling the upcoming Episode VII, I guess we can use process of elimination to figure out who won't be directing the movie in the meantime. Steven Spielberg has already made it clear he won't be directing, and George Lucas is stepping away from the company except to act as a consultant. Now another legendary director has taken his name out of the running, with the customary amount of pizazz, of course.

“I could so care less,” said Quentin Tarantino when Entertainment Weekly asked him if he would consider directing the next Star Wars film, currently set for release in 2015. They asked him if that meant he wasn't a fan, and he confirmed it, along with a slightly mystifying burn against Disney and… Simon West?

“No, sorry. Especially if Disney’s going to do it. I’m not interested in the Simon West version of Star Wars.”

It's a little hard to figure out what he means by that, since West doesn't seem to be attached at all to the new Star Wars or any current Disney project-- he last made The Expendables 2 and is currently ready to make Heat with Jason Statham. Is it a dig against Con Air, which was made by the Disney-owned Touchstone Pictures back when they were a studio still interested in aiming for adult audiences? Who knew Quentin Tarantino had a grudge against Con Air? And why would he assume that movie would have anything to do with the new Star Wars anyway?

Lots of mysteries, but then again, Tarantino is a mysterious dude, and it would be insane to think of him ever taking over a Star Wars film anyway. I'm holding firm to my belief that it will be a relative unknown who takes over Star Wars, and even then, it doesn't really matter who directs it. But by all means, let's keep asking directors if they'll take the job if it results in magnificently cranky answers like this one.
