Rosamund Pike Snags Role Opposite Tom Cruise In One Shot

Two days ago we brought you the shortlist of actresses up for the starring role opposite Tom Cruise in One Shot, the upcoming adaptation of Lee Child's Jack Reacher book. Now the pick has been made. Deadline reports that Rosamund Pike is in negotiations for the role, playing a district attorney who works with Cruise to find the true culprits behind a series of sniper shootings.
Pike is now best known for roles in prestige films like Pride and Prejudice or An Education, but she came close to a brush with action when she was rumored to be up for the role of Emma Frost in X-Men: First Class (and oh, what a better choice than January Jones she would have been). She'll be getting plenty of time working with CGI creatures as well in next year's Clash of the Titans 2, where she'll be playing Andromeda. But One Shot, a legal thriller, should be a little bit lower-key, and require more genuine acting talent, than either of those roles, which is one reason Pike is probably perfect for it. Christopher McQuarrie, who won an Oscar for writing The Usual Suspects and wrote Valkyrie for Cruise back in 2008, will make his second directing effort with One Shot, which starts shooting this fall.
