Scream 4 Carves Out An October Blu-Ray/DVD Release
It has been over a decade since Scream 3 came out. That's a decade of new horror clichés and conventions to spoof. There was a new crop of fresh-faced hotties for Ghost Face to eviscerate. And, most importantly, it was just about long enough for everybody to forget how crappy Scream 3 was. Cue Scream 4!
Fortunately, all those years away from the franchise seemed to be good for director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson, because by many accounts Scream 4 was a fun and clever revival of the moldering franchise. I personally would have liked a sequel where Ghost Face reappears and is then butchered by a new Saw-style murderer, but that might be too on the nose. Or, er, nose hole.
Scream 4 sends long-suffering protagonist Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell) back to her home town of Woodsboro as part of her book tour. Yes, Sidney is now a published author. Presumably of a book about surviving pop-culture-obsessed serial killers, which is a surprisingly crowded market. She runs into familiar faces in the form of Sheriff Dewey and Gale Weathers, now married. Naturally, soon a new killer takes up the Ghost Face mantle and begins killing improbably attractive local youths. Filling out the cast of disposable cleavage/sacks of meat and blood are Anna Paquin, Kristen Bell, Alison Brie, Aimee Teegarden, and several other actresses whose phone numbers I would like.
Anchor Bay Entertainment and Dimension Films have slated Scream 4 for an October 4th release on Blu-ray and DVD. What, you guys couldn't get it closer to Halloween? That's just sloppy marketing. You'll be able to choose between a Blu-ray Combo Pack for $39.99 or a regular DVD for $29.98. Here's the trailer:
