Selena Gomez To Produce And Star In The Sky Is Everywhere.![]()
You may know Selena Gomez for her acting on both television or in films or for her music career, but now she's ready to take another step in her career: producing. According to Deadline, Gomez and her production company, July Moon, has optioned the film rights to The Sky is Everywhere, the first book from author Jandy Nelson. In addition to bringing the pages to the silver screen, the actress/singer plans to star in the picture as well.
The plot follows Lennie Walker, an introverted 17-year-old geek who is constantly overshadowed by her older sister, named Bailey, who is her exact opposite. When Bailey dies unexpectedly, Lennie suddenly finds herself forced to fill her sibling's shoes. Part of this involves balancing two boys, - her "sister’s grieving boyfriend, the other a musically inclined transplant from Paris." As everything builds and builds she must try and work her life out or risk being crushed beneath it. In addition to her role on Wizards of Waverly Place, Gomez has been building a film career that has included projects like 2010's Ramona and Beezus and last year's Monte Carlo. She is also attached to star in Spring Breakers, the new movie from writer/director Harmony Korine. The article doesn't mention who will be writing or directing The Sky is Everywhere. I think the plot of this project sounds intriguing and Jandy Nelson's book was the recipient of a lot of praise, but I do have one problem from the get-go: I don't buy Selena Gomez as an introverted band nerd. Then again, Emma Stone was able to make it work in Easy A, so who knows what Gomez can accomplish. |
