Seth MacFarlane Won't Host The 2014 Oscars, He Swears
Whether you thought he did a great job or think he's a sexist monster, you had to be intrigued by the recent rumor that Seth MacFarlane had been invited back to host the Oscars again next year. Sure, he swore after the February ceremony that it was a one-time deal, but he made headlines and got a lot of people to watch-- why wouldn't the Academy want him back, and why wouldn't a showman like MacFarlane take the job?
Unfortunately for everyone who loves arguing on the Internet, though, MacFarlane has squashed the rumor once and for all-- via Twitter, of course. Here's the story in two tweets:
So apparently the rumor was true-- producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, who are already on board to come back next year, really did ask MacFarlane to make a return appearance. and MacFarlane's many other duties kept him away. It's hard to blame him for wanting more sleep-- this summer he's prepping his Ted followup A Million Ways to Die in the West, which is putting together a huge cast and some wishful thinking from us about elaborate musical numbers. West is set for release on May 30 next year, which would mean MacFarlane's Oscar duties would come right in the middle of post-production. Better for him that he get the breaků and better for the rest of us who were dreading rolling our eyes through another year of sexist Oscar jokes.
