Shiloh Fernandez Joins Amanda Seyfried In Red Riding Hood
At last, a role for a teenage guy that does not go to Taylor Lautner. THR reports that Shiloh Fernandez, known from Jericho and United States of Tara, has snagged a lead role opposite Amanda Seyfried in Girl With the Red Riding Hood, which is being described as "gothic horror re-imagining" of the classic Little Red Riding Hood story.
Fernandez will play the orphaned woodcutter who is also the love interest of Seyfried's character, a woman being terrorized by a medieval werewolf. I'm guessing the two of them will team up for some serious wolf-killing action by the end. The film is directed by Twilight's Catherine Hardwicke, which I guess makes it even more surprising that Lautner didn't somehow work his way in there.
THR notes that at one point Fernandez was up for both Robert Pattinson's Twilight role and Emile Hirsch's in Speed Racer, so it seems his big break is long overdue. If he does indeed become famous after this film, Hardwicke will be able to take credit for foisting three teen matinee idols upon the world-- a pretty impressive track record by any measure.
