Stan Lee's name is practically synonymous with Marvel Comics, the Spider-Man creator's history with the company dating back to the late 1930s when it was called Timely Comics, and that bond has played out on the big screen many, many times. Not only is Lee an executive producer on just about every Marvel movie out there, he has been making regular cameo appearances in just about all of them since Bryan Singer's X-Men in 2000. Now, however, the famed comic book writer/editor seems to have an interest in shaking up the system. According to ComicBook.com, Lee was present on a panel at the Wizard World Nashville Comic Con and after being asked about his blink-and-you-miss-them appearances in Marvel movies the writer explained why it would be an amazing idea for the folks over at DC Comics to cast him in Zack Snyder's Batman vs. Superman. Said the comic book legend,
“I'll show you why DC isn’t so smart. If I were the head of DC, I would contact me and say, ‘How about doing a cameo in the next Superman movie?’ Can you imagine? Nobody would believe it. Everybody would go see it.”

While Lee is certainly joking about his appearance in the movie alone drawing big crowds, I do think that he's on to something,. As a comic book fan and, by extension, a comic book movie fan, I've never understood why others are so adamant about drawing a line in the sand between Marvel and DC. Browsing around the internet I regularly see commenters writing about how one company is so much better than the other, and one sucks while the other is awesome... but this way of thinking has never really had any logic to it. Both Marvel and DC have had their respective ups and downs both on the page and on the big and small screens, but at the end of the day they both regularly produce generally quality stories about some of the best fictional characters introduced in the last century. A Stan Lee cameo in Batman vs. Superman could be the equivalent of an olive branch and perhaps forge some sort of peace between the two camps. Either that or cause a massive war. You really can never predict how reactionary fanboys will behave.

Surely Snyder could come up with something funny for Lee to do, right? After all, the folks at Marvel have been doing it for more than a full decade now and will soon continue the tradition with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 in May - and possibly also with Thor: The Dark World next month and Captain America: The Winter Soldier in April (but sadly not with X-Men: Days of Future Past).
