The big thing holding up the sequel to the cult comedy Super Troopers hasn't been scheduling conflicts or creative issues, but rather legal problems. The Broken Lizard troupe, which features the talents of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter, and Erik Stolhanske, has spent years trying to make a follow-up to their most well-known film, but due to a rights issue involving the original development has been stalled. The last time we got an update was in July of last year, but today we learn that the woes seem to over over and that the green light has been lit.

GuySpeed recently had the chance to sit down with both Heffernan and Lemme in advance of the release of their new stand-up special, and when asked for an update on Super Troopers 2 the news was entirely positive. “There will be a Super Troopers sequel," Heffernan confirmed to the site. Reiterating that the script has already been written, which was confirmed last summer, the actor known for his role as Officer Farva said that they are now working with the studio to find a time and a place to shoot, which could be as soon as later this year. "I have to start growing my mustache now."

It may come as a surprise to some, but the original Super Trooper actually celebrated its 12 year anniversary earlier this month - amazing how time flies, isn't it? But is now too late? Have fans moved on, or will they still be excited to see the return of the Vermont state trooper squad? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
