SXSW: 21 Jump Street Thrills The Crowd At The Paramount Theatre
21 Jump Street opens Friday, and we have been banging the drum hard in support of this raucous comedy. This evening, our bandwagon just tripled as crowds streamed from the Paramount Theatre – where the film just held a SXSW premiere – and sang the movie’s praises. These are just a few of our favorite Tweets that blew up Twitter right after the screening.
“21 Jump Street was way better than it should have been.” Igor
“You couldn't hear half the jokes cause the #SXSW crowd was rightfully cheering & screaming for 21 Jump Street, one of the best of 2012 so far.” Germain Lussier
“Believe the hype. 21 Jump Street is REALLY funny. Loudest laughs and claps I've ever heard at the Paramount.” Chris McInroy
“21 Jump Street was much funnier than I expected. A great addition to the #SXSW Monday night Paramount Theater studio comedy tradition.” Matt Dentler
See? Now you don’t have to take our words for it – though our very own Katey Rich did give the Street a rock-solid 4 out of 5 stars. But the masses from SXSW are speaking, and so far, they are loving what they see. And they should. Right from the start, Jump Street pokes fun of its existence as a reboot of an old television show. Yet, through the partnership of Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum (who showed up for the post Jump Street Q&A wearing biker cop outfits), the film is able to hold on to the spirit of the original show whikle also taking it to some very funny places.
21 Jump Street finally opens on March 16. It’s directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs) and co-stars Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Rob Riggle, Ellie Kemper and Jake Johnson. Give it a try. It’s very, very funny.
