Hold on one second, Wendi McLendon-Covey. Though we recently reported the Bridesmaids co-star was set to headline White Trash Christmas -- an indie, comedic version of Charles Dickens’ classic A Christmas Carol -- Deadline now says the role has gone to fellow “trashy” blonde Taryn Manning … and McLendon-Covey’s name isn’t even mentioned.

The story, credited to screenwriter Ron Carlson (who’ll also direct) and Terri Kauffman, finds three spirits visiting an alcoholic, unemployed, single mother on Christmas Eve. You know how it ends … regret, reconciliation and redemption. Right? Well, if White Trash takes a Bad Santa turn, we might be in for a surprise or two.

Speaking of surprises, I wonder if McLendon-Covey’s shocked to hear Manning’s the new white trash mom? Bets known for her roles in Hustle & Flow and 8 Mile, Manning’s always been kind of a sidekick to people like Britney Spears (Crossroads) and Brittany Murphy. In fact, 10 years ago I could have convinced you that both Brits would have been ideal choices to play a white-trash homewrecker in an indie comedy. Then again, this could be Manning’s chance to finally show that he has what it takes to carry the load in a comedy. After staying busy on TV shows such as Sons of Anarchy and Hawaii Five-O, this is a semi-big break for an actress who has been around since 1999. While I’m not necessarily begging for yet another version of Dickens’ timeless tale, I would like to see how Manning handles herself in a comedic lead.
