As though we needed any more reason to look forward to the big screen adaptation of The Hunger Games, the single for Taylor Swift’s “Safe & Sound” has made its way online. The song, which you can listen to here, will be featured on the soundtrack for the film.

The film adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games hits theaters March 23rd, at which time we’ll see Katniss enter the arena and represent her district in a fight-to-the-death battle with kids from other districts. Exactly three months before the film’s release date, a song from the soundtrack has been released and it’s a good one. Taylor Swift tweeted the news of the release of “Safe & Sound” today, along with this cover image for the single:



“Safe & Sound” features The Civil Wars and is not only a(nother) great song for Swift, but it also seems like a great fit for the tone of the story during the more somber moments. Perhaps it'll play over Katniss with Rue during the games or with her sister Prim near the start of the film. Or maybe when Katniss is trying to get some sleep while on her own in the arena. The song has a lullaby quality to it that’s also just the right amount of sad and haunted, especially toward the end. “Just close your eyes. The sun is going down. You’ll be all right. No one can hurt you now. Come morning light, you and I’ll be safe and sound...”
