The Farrelly Brothers Are Seriously Considering A Dumb And Dumber Sequel
The 1994 Farrelly Brothers comedy Dumb and Dumber has already suffered one awful sequel, Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd, which involved none of the original cast or the two directors and pretty much nobody liked. But the Farrellys are apparently undaunted when it comes to revisiting two of their most iconic characters; promoting their new film Hall Pass to Moviehole down in Australia, Bobby Farrelly admitted that the two are actually seriously considering a true sequel to their movie:
“[Dumb and Dumber] has run a bunch of times on TV in the states, and kids will come up and they’ll be able to quote lines from that – lines that I’ve long forgotten. If we could get those two guys back together, Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels that might be a worthwhile sequel – and that ball is in motion. We’re starting to think about what those two dimwits would be doing twenty-years later in life, and hopefully we’ll be able to come up with something worthy of a sequel.”
The key, of course, is that they won't do it without Carrey and Daniels-- a smart movie given how badly the other sequel turned out, but also kind of tricky given how far each actor has moved along in their careers since then. A reunion would be fun, sure, but it might be tough to convince them both to revisit characters they played 20 years ago.
Meanwhile the Farrellys are moving forward with their Three Stooges movie, and who knows how long it might be until they could get to a Dumb and Dumber sequel, even if they decide to make it. What do you guys think-- is a Dumb and Dumber sequel just reliving the past, or would a new one make up for that awful one we already saw?
