The Fraggle Rock Movie Is Basically Dead![]()
This Thanksgiving, after years of patiently waiting, the Muppets will finally be making their way back to the big screen, thanks to James Bobin, Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller. Both children and adults who grew up with the characters are twitching with anticipation, not only for the release date, but even a trailer. But while we wait for one Henson property to head into theaters, a different one has sadly been shut down.
Corey Edwards, who was first assigned by the Weinstein Company to write and direct a Fraggle Rock movie back in 2008, has announced on his website that the project has gone into "a deep coma." According to Edwards, he has reached out to the studio, which has inquired about a new writer or starting over, but the director hasn't "heard a peep from their camp in almost a year." In an attempt to sooth fans, Edwards also says, "...let’s all remember that the next best thing to making a Fraggle movie is avoiding making a BAD ONE. So at least we’re doing that." Of course, because of movie studios' obsession with 80s nostalgia it's entirely possible that this project will come around the bend again, but it looks as though it will be a while until it gets made. From the sound of it the Weinsteins weren't too pleased with the work Edwards had done, but it's pretty awful that they just stopped contacting him. Maybe it's for the best. |
