Tilda Swinton Willing To Tackle Patton Oswalt's Oscar Snub Dare![]()
While hordes of movie fans took to the web yesterday to vent their frustration with the Academy Award nominations and its inevitable long list of snubs, one of the overlooked in this year's awards race brought some much-needed levity to the fore. Patton Oswalt, who impressed critics with his sly and sharp supporting turn in the wickedly funny Young Adult, unleashed his disappointment on his Twitter feed by creating a wacky and wonderful diary of the most buzzed about snubbees' imaginary post-announcement revels.
Among playful posts that declared indie ingénues Elizabeth Olsen and Kirsten Dunst arrived via "a shower of rose petals," Oswalt painted a vivid picture of Academy-ignored motion-capture actor Andy Serkis performing a karaoke duet of "Life on Mars" with Tilda Swinton, who many—myself included—felt was robbed of a well-deserved nomination for her gut-wrenching work in the gritty maternal-horror drama We Need to Talk About Kevin. It was a party that—no matter how fake—we all wished we had been invited to—including Swinton. When Vulture caught up with the enigmatic and ethereal actress, she admitted she was actually "very, very happy" to be able to avoid the Academy Awards season brouhaha, and looked forward to returning home for a restful February. However, when she was shown some of Oswalt's Oscar Snub tweets, she was eager to party, squealing, "Oh, how fun! Is he there now?...We should go! Where is he?” Sadly, there was no real Oscar Snub Bash…or at least not yet. But Oswalt should know, Swinton is game, insisting, "I think we should do it for real. How faaabulous!” After reading the tweet about her Serkis karaoke duet, Swinton declared: “That’s a dare! That’s an excellent dare. Okay, Patton, you’re on. Let’s get Andy and let’s go for it!” Dear Gods of the Internet, please make this happen. Please make Swinton don full on Ziggy Stardust garb, and please make it readily embeddable on Youtube! Amen. |
