It's been a solid two years since we first learned that Guy Pearce and Bailee Madison were joining the cast of Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, a long time for a horror movie with a name like Guillermo del Toro behind it. There’s been a slow but steady stream of news about the film since then, between poster releases and Comic Con appearances, and now that the film is finally just one week away from release, marketing is getting kicked up a notch.
Two new clips have appeared online and if you’re already not a fan of the dark, neither will help you overcome that. In this first clip, we learn that director Troy Nixey won’t be making an effort to keep the little monsters that lurk in the shadows hidden from the audience. You can see them plain as day as they lasso Guy Pearce and take him down. Have a look.
A second clip makes us aware that no one in this film can even take a bath in peace. The creatures simply wait for the right moment, use certain tools to shut out the lights and then move on their victims. Bailee Madison, the target of the creatures’ affections as it were, tries to hide in the water from the small beings that hunt her, but we can be sure that it won’t help. Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark is Nixey’s feature film debut, but producer with Guillermo del Toro we won’t be going out on a limb to expect greatness here. Next Friday we’ll be able to see for ourselves just what the pair have been crafting for so long. Back to top
