Video Interview: Drive Director Nicolas Winding Refn
It's no secret how much I love Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive. I saw the film at the Los Angeles Film Festival in June and I don't believe a day since that I haven't referenced it or even thought about it in some way (I even have three framed posters hanging up in my apartment now). Hands down it is my favorite film of the year. Needless to say I've been dying to talk to the people who made the film and at this year's Comic Con I got just that opportunity, invited to participate in a roundtable interview with the film's director.
In the movie, based on the book by James Sallis, Ryan Gosling stars as a man who works as a stuntman by day and a getaway driver by night. After meeting and getting to know his beautiful next door neighbor (Carey Mulligan), his life is thrown into a tailspin after her boyfriend (Oscar Isaac) is released from prison. The unnamed protagonist agrees to do a job with the boyfriend, but when things go horribly wrong he suddenly finds himself and everyone he cares about in mortal danger. Check out the video interview below in which Nicolas Winding Refn discusses the film's brutality, the incredibly soundtrack filled with 80s-esque synthpop and his experience filming in Los Angeles for the first time.
