The Chronicles of Riddick franchise has a pretty huge fanbase. One so large that a third film in the series, simply titled Riddick, is finally coming to theaters in September after over five years of rumors and script news from director/writer David Twohy.
But is that fan base larger than the throne that Riddick is sitting on below? The film’s star Vin Diesel himself posted the picture on his Facebook page on Friday, showing Riddick not kicking a single piece of ass, but rather looking glum and dejected, as if his Furyan high school prom date stood him up. I’m sure it’s something much more important, however, like the fate of an entire planet.
Seriously though, I’m not a big fan of either the Riddick films or thrones in general, but this is a ridiculously impressive piece of furniture that could possibly top The Big Lebowski’s rug at really tying a room together. If there were ever a perfect place to sit and brood over the huge credit card bill that arrived after a silly and expensive movie merchandise purchase was made, this throne is it.
The photo was accompanied by Diesel’s message:
“It has been 9 years since The Chronicles of Riddick was released…all along I knew I would eventually have to return to that dark place, the mind of an Alpha Furyan…”
Riddick finds the lead character left for dead on a planet full of deadly creatures. With no other options, he has to call in the bounty hunters tracking him in order to escape back to his home planet Furya, which is on the verge of destruction.
