Video games took center stage in theaters this weekend as a movie chock full of classic characters dominated the number one spot. Wreck-It Ralph was the easy champion with almost $50 million. While that was a nice boost for the box office after a sluggish October, it might not have been the debut the movie's producers had hoped for. With $62 million world wide for Ralph the movie is still well shy of its hefty $165 million price tag and substantial marketing budget.
Denzel Washington's Flight came in for a landing at second place with just $25 million, an on-par total for a Washington headliner. The folks at Paramount are probably celebrating first class style. The movie's modest $31 budget leaves the entry in a solid financial spot. Kung Fu-ish newcomer The Man With The Iron Fists hammered its way only so far as fourth place with a sleepy $8 million bow in. It wasn't quite enough to displace Argo which added $10 million to its $75 million domestic total during its fourth weekend out. After a dismal debut last weekend Cloud Atlas didn't fare any better this week. Despite hopes from some fans that the movie's poor opening performance might be overcome after a week of word-of-mouth, it slipped from second to sixth place with just $5 million and is poised to fade quietly into the night, a major box office bust.
