Weird Science Gets A Creepy Twist In New Parody Short Starring Breaking Bad's R.J. Mitte
While I still have a strange, unwanted taste in my mouth from hearing about the propose remake of John Hughes’ Weird Science, thanks to the above parody video from Funny or Die I can temporarily forget about it. This video brings to life any conversation that any film fan has had about Weird Science that lasts longer than three minutes. Once you stop talking about how hot Lisa is and the person you would try and create in the device, things take a dark turn. What could go wrong with this machine if you weren’t extremely careful?
Just ask Breaking Bad’s R.J. Mitte and Mad Men’s Marten Holden Weiner, who fill the Gary and Wyatt roles in Strange Chemistry and attempt to create their dream girl by way of technology. While they aim high for their creation, choosing to duplicate Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio, their actual process is less than ideal. Instead of carefully cutting her picture out of a brand new magazine, they rip it out of a used one with food particles all over it.
Ambrosio looks amazing with the left side of her face in fully disarray. Anyone with a sideways mouth gets a vote of approval in my book. There’s no real reason for her voice to be as digitally deep as it is, but it makes it all the creepier. I don’t think I would have predicted Mitte and Weiner would have made a decent comedy duo, either. If this were actually a portion of a Weird Science sequel, I might only complain 35 percent of what I’ve currently got going.
The DeAndre Jordan appearance was ridiculously cheesy, but the randomness of the cameo won me over. The parts I actually enjoy the most are the nauseating sound-alike theme song and how contemporary the scene feels even with all the obvious references to the 1980s. I need a boombox in my life.
And now, to get that new theme out of my head, I present Oingo Boingo’s original song. And even if it had nothing to do with this story, it’s still a classic.
