William Shatner Calls J.J. Abrams A Pig For Abandoning Star Trek

Star Trek fans have endured a lot over the years, from the inevitable middle school teasing to the really dark days of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. But all this time one of the people who's always had their back was William Shatner, Captain Kirk himself, who would stand by the Trek faithful even when pop culture didn't.

Even though Shatner didn't make a cameo in Abrams's Star Trek, like his co-star Leonard Nimoy, he considers Abrams a "buddy," and didn't mince words when asked what he thought about Abrams taking on Star Wars: Episode VII and likely abandoning Star Trek 3 in the process. Check out what he had to say in this conversation with MovieFanatic.com:

I really hope the term "have another sushi" somehow becomes industry lingo for "crack your skull on the table and tell you what's what." Of course, reasonable people can't actually expect this to happen, since even though Shatner was the captain of the Starship Enterprise once upon a time, the Star Wars franchise-- and the Star Trek franchise, for that matter-- is much bigger than he is. And given the way that the industry works, Shatner will probably one of the first out of the gate to praise Abrams's Star Wars. Maybe he'll wind up the first step in uniting the Trek and Wars clans after all?
