Wreck-It Ralph Viral Video Game Trailer Shows Off Shooter Game Hero's Duty
Disney's Wreck-It Ralph looks to be the animated film to beat this fall. Centered on an 8-bit video game villain who—after decades of service being the baddie—wants to check out the road less traveled, Wreck-It Ralph embeds itself deeply into the lush art and history of video gaming. Not only does the family-friendly comedy offer plenty of cameos of recognizable video icons, from Sonic the Hedgehog to Bowser and Q*bert, it also develops three game worlds of its own.
The first is a 1980s 8-bit arcade game called Fix It Felix Jr. Here, players maneuver the eponymous handyman (voiced by 30 Rock's Jack McBrayer) as he battles the "rad wrecker" Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly), who tirelessly tears down the buildings of Niceland. Check out the commercial for this game here.
The second world, where Ralph crosses paths with snotty ankle-biter Vanellope von Schweetz (Sarah Silverman), is that of the 1990s-styled racing game Sugar Rush Speedway. Can you handle the rush? Check out this sweet game's 90s-esque trailer here.
And finally, there's the game world where Ralph hopes to achieve his dream of heroic glory! Hero's Duty is a dark and aggressive war game where soldiers wear some serous armor with attitudes to match. Here Ralph encounters Sergeant Calhoun (Jane Lynch), but will he find the identity he longs for?
Everything about the design and marketing of Wreck-It Ralph has been sharp and engaging. Lots of action, sight gags, and bright colors are on display for the youngsters, and plenty of attention shined on the incredible voice cast (that also includes Alan Tudyk, Rachel Harris, Mindy Kaling, and Dennis Haysbert), allusions to classic games, and its smart sense of humor for more mature audience members. My favorite unifying touch of these three ads might just be the changing worth of a kid's birthday, and the escalating requirements for proof of date of birth.
Wreck-It Ralph opens November 2nd. Check out more about the movie at our Blend Film Database.
