"This might not be the best idea."

After teasing fans with multiple, short clips, Marvel Studios finally dropped the full, glorious Guardians of the Galaxy trailer on the filmís official Facebook page, filling in the complete picture on James Gunnís upcoming superhero adventure while prepping audiences for the August 1 release.

The clip has a distinct rock-and-roll attitude, relying on recognizable music cues to give what's essentially a "Meet the Team" featurette for Guardians of the Galaxy this welcome edge. It's the best look we have had at the sci-fi scope of the universe these anti-heroes will attempt to defend. And we get to hear both Rocket Raccoon (Bradley Cooper) AND Groot (Vin Diesel) speak!

Earlier, Marvel also revealed the official poster for James Gunnís Guardians of the Galaxy, and it had this The Avengers meets Star Wars vibe (which is what Iím half expecting out of this hybrid feature):

Guardians of the Galaxy Poster

Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be an interesting departure for Marvel Studios, on so many levels. It doesnít have that instantly marketable, household-name superhero to slap on the marketing materials. Chris Pratt is an up-and-coming star who has been excellent on television (NBCís Parks and Rec) and in mid-level movies (Moneyball, Delivery Man), but he has yet to open a movie. Plus, the movie has a talking, volatile raccoon, and a tree-like creature voiced by Vin Diesel. So yeah, strange.

But if it works, it will go a LONG way toward proving that the Marvel brand Ė and the studioís approach to storytelling Ė works outside of the solo movies that exist to prepare an audience for the next Avengers movie, and it might mean that Marvel can continue to get offbeat with movies like Doctor Strange, Power Man & Iron Fist, and beyond.

Marvel Studios has had a powerful year already with Captain America: The Winter Soldier inching over the $700 million mark, worldwide. The studio is hard at work on Joss Whedonís The Avengers: Age of Ultron, and plans are underway for new Cap and Thor movies. The future is bright, but we all still will be paying attention to see if casual fans embrace the offbeat nature of Guardians of the Galaxy. Because if audiences vote at the ticket booth for James Gunnís vision, Marvel gets the greenlight to start getting REALLY creative with its Cinematic UniverseÖ and that would be very exciting for fans, the studio, and the industry, as a whole.

Guardians of the Galaxy opens on August 1. Tells us, what did you think of the latest trailer?
