BREAKING MOVIE NEWS
While most films use alcohol substitutes for drinking scenes, Drinking Buddies is not like most films. The indie comedy directed by Joe Swanberg and starring Olivia Wilde, Anna Kendrick, and Jake Johnson used actual beer while filming. As a result, Wilde got buzzed with Kendrick — and often.
The Quentin Tarantino Archives has released a list of the esteemed director’s favorite films of the year so far. Personally, I was surprised by several of his picks, so I thought I’d test the rest of you to see if from the twenty films listed you can figure out which titles are really on his top ten.
Wilde and Johnson star as Kate and Luke, best buds who work together at a craft brewery and often crack each other up. As you can see in the trailer above, they seem on the verge of breaking out of the friend zone—until we meet their dreamy significant others/romantic obstacles.
“I hardly remember the process,” Wilde said, with a hint of awe in her voice. She added that she watches scenes in the finished film and doesn’t remember saying chunks of the dialogue.
Anna Kendrick hates being idle. She’s released nine movies in the last three years and somehow has a further six either waiting to be released or in post-production. Whether she can thank her twenty-six-year-old energy or her excitement at becoming a movie star is unclear. Either way, you’ll see a ton of her in the coming year, and if this latest news is any indication, her pace won’t slow anytime soon.
