BREAKING MOVIE NEWS
It has to be said that none of the comedy in Dumb & Dumber To feels overly fresh. The trailer seems like it belongs to a film that would have come out during the 1990s, but thatís not necessarily a bad thing. You donít want to tread over the exact same ground in a comedy sequel, but you also donít want to abandon the basic premise either.
Peter and Bobby Farrellyís Dumb and Dumber To will open in theaters on Nov. 14, 2014, according to Universal Studios. This upcoming comedy reunites original stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels in arguably their signature roles.
But while filming The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Lawrence took a side-gig that is surely one she never even dared to dream of. She joined the cast of Dumb and Dumber To. You might think Iím being glib, but check out Lawrence on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
For the Farrellys, a Dumber sequel would be an attempt to return to the rarified air of the $100M+ club Ö a plateau they reached only twice (with Dumber and 1998ís Thereís Something About Mary). Since then, their movies have hovered in the $42M to $45M range.
Really, no one wants to see a Dumb and Dumber sequel if it doesnít star Carrey and Jeff Daniels. That would be certain death. Thankfully, if the Tweet can be believed, the Farrellys are writing for Carrey and Daniels, so weíll hopefully see the duo back in action in the sequel.
After much hoopla, speculation and in some corners, excitement, it now appears Dumb And Dumber To wonít be happening. Carrey released a statement through his rep this morning confirming the news and citing lack of studio interest in moving forward as his determining factor to bail. Whether that means Warner Brothers and New Line were unwilling to spend the money or dismissive of all the early plot ideas is open to debate...
Could Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne be headed back to the big screen for more dumb (and dumber) shenanigans? That may be in the works, but before you groan about remakes and bad prequels, it sounds like this one will be a sequel and helmed by the Farrelly brothers, who directed the original film more than a decade ago.
With the exception of two Ace Ventura movies, Jim Carrey has actually been able to spend most of his career avoiding really terrible sequels. Movies like Dumb and Dumber, The Mask and Bruce Almighty were all given the sequel treatment, but Carrey, not wanting to soil material that he liked being a part of, decided not to be involved.
The key, of course, is that they won't do it without Carrey and Daniels-- a smart movie given how badly the other sequel turned out, but also kind of tricky given how far each actor has moved along in their careers since then. A reunion would be fun, sure, but it might be tough to convince them both to revisit characters they played 20 years ago.
Inspired by movies and the many memorable pieces of wardrobe in them, these posters are clean, elegant, and downright awesome. The titles of the films are shown, but even without them
