BREAKING MOVIE NEWS
While the movie didn't screen early for critics, Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers opened at midnight last night and some reviewers bought tickets so that they could publish an opinion on the movie today. The result has been overwhelmingly negative, our own Katey Rich calling it, "the rare movie that's so dumb it's impossible to understand" (expect her full review later today).
While film history is full of great, well-developed characters that stand on their own, there’s something to be said for a great trio. Larry, Curly and Moe, for example, may have each been funny and interesting on their own, but together, these characters formed a comedic connection, which would be celebrated for decades to come. Sometimes the joining of three great characters creates an on-screen dynamic that’s truly worth much more than the sum of its parts.
What should viewers expect from the upcoming Three Musketeers? Based on this video, which features director Paul W.S. Anderson and the cast, swords, guns and frilly dresses. I suppose none of that really sets this new adaptation apart from the previously made films, however, as mentioned in the video, this will be the Three Musketeers that tells a 400-year-old story using 21st Century technology.
The first trailer for The Three Musketeers was a little confusing, even for a Paul W.S. Anderson movie. That trailer didn’t seem to be so much about the Musketeers we’ve come to know and love after their dozens of different film incarnations (I guess they’re in some book too), it seemed to be mostly about Milla Jovovich doing sweet Matrix moves.
It's a deliberately old-fashioned affair, looking almost hand-drawn and echoing the old work Drew Struzan did for the Indiana Jones movies, kind of like the Super 8 one that turned out to be fan-made. But the Musketeers poster also features Jovovich giving her best sexyface
It's easy to say that Logan Lerman is one of the fastest rising members of young Hollywood. Only 19 years old, he's had roles in films like The Patriot and and 3:10 To Yuma and kicked off a franchise role last year with Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.
It's hard to tell exactly what the plot involves-- something about saving the world, fighting off enemies, blah blah blah-- but I think the entire point of the trailer is to make you not care. This movie is going to be pretty and possibly badass
Punisher: War Zone may have been a bit of a financial and critical bust back in 2008, but some of the folks over at Marvel not only think The Punisher still has appeal, but War Zone’s star, Ray Stevenson, too. While promoting his upcoming film, Kill the Irishman, Stevenson explained that Marvel has finally reacquired the rights from Lionsgate, allowing them to potentially go ahead with a new Punisher film.
Though the film isn't set to be released until October, we've already seen quite a lot from Paul W.S. Anderson's The Three Musketeers from numerous set photos, to an officially
Never one to shy away from borrowing someone else’s franchise, Paul W.S. Anderson is working on a new version of The Three Musketeers. It’s been at least five minutes since someone has done one, so I guess we’re due
Orlando Bloom is returning to swashbuckling. He’s officially on board Paul W.S. Anderson’s new take on The Three Musketeers. Here’s the weird thing: He’s not one of the Musketeers
Juno Temple: you know her fact even if you don't know her name, the cute, apple-cheeked girl who has shown up everywhere from Atonement to Greenberg. She was a mere slave girl in the now-forgotten comedy Year One
Word is that an offer is out to Orlando Bloom to play nemesis Duke of Buckingham, a role I wouldn’t have thought particularly important. Doesn’t Richilieu already have the bad guy thing covered
Lionel Wigram, who produced Sherlock Holmes, is also on board for this one, which means we'll be hearing lots and lots of comparisons between the two films before this comes out
The minute they knew they had a hit with Sherlock Holmes, Warner Bros. hunkered down to figure out what other somewhat classic property they could turn into an action movie, and immediately set their sights
