March is the month where both Hollywood and the indie circuit really kick into high gear, parading out big budget spectacles, quirky comedies, action romps and yes, even a Tyler Perry movie.
Gyllenhaal plays Adam Bell, a ho-hum college professor who watches a movie based on a recommendation, only to find someone in the movie that looks exactly like him. A hunt tells him the man’s name is Anthony Saint Claire, and Adam takes on the role of a clever sleuth in trying to figure out who Anthony is and what his secrets are.
Having just caught up with Denis Villeneuve’s nail-biting mystery thriller Prisoners on VOD, I was blown away by how tense the director managed to make every scene, regardless of what was going on. (Admittedly, most of the things going on were pretty tense after the first twenty minutes or so.) As such, it made me even more excited for his next film, the doppelgänger drama Enemy, which I didn’t think was possible.
A24 is a new distribution company, having only made its debut in last spring with the US release of Sally Potter's gorgeous coming-of-age drama Ginger & Rosa. But they have quickly established a reputation for selecting seriously superb indie cinema, and they've set new release dates.
