BREAKING MOVIE NEWS
Stanley Kubrick's The Shining is not only one of the director's greatest works, but also easily one of the best horror movies ever made. Its style and featured performances are as affecting today as they were when the movie first came out, and it will remain that way forever. Its quality has allowed the movie to develop a legion of fans over the years, and now Mondo is giving all of those fans a very special way to express their love.
A Mondo poster for Godzilla has arrived and it's both rad and fiery red. The artwork debuted just in time for SXSW and the planned screening of the classic monster film, which will be hosted by Gareth Edwards at the South By Southwest festival in Austin this evening.
Attention poster collectors and Ben Affleck fans alike. Mondo is celebrating Affleckís directorial efforts with a series of posters showcasing The Town, Argo and Gone Baby Gone. The first poster shows us their take on the 2010 crime drama The Town, which depicts the silhouettes of two bag-carrying men facing a maze of parked Boston Police cars blocking their way to Fenway.
If you've been keeping track of Mondo these days, you know they've been showcasing Universal monsters with some pretty outstanding limited edition prints, but the latest poster to unveil for the site is for a more current film. With Ender's Game set to arrive in theaters in a matter of weeks, the timing seems right for a Mondo poster to celebrate the anticipated sci-fi film, and artist Martin Ansin has delivered.
Sure, itís a gimmick like anything else, but itís one of the more fitting gimmicks I can think of. Maniac, starring Elijah Wood as the mentally troubled Frank, is the kind of movie that probably never would have been made in the pre-DVD era, given its ridiculously dark tone and gory splendor. Khalfoun obviously made the film with a bigger budget than one would have had back then as well, so it looks quite slick throughout. I have to wonder how well the film will look transferred to a grainy magnetic tape.
Scripted by Kate Dippold, who is best known for her work on MADtv and Parks and Recreation, The Heat centers on FBI Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) and Boston cop Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy). While the two women couldn't possibly be any more different, from the way they live their lives to the way in which they go about doing their jobs, they are forced to team up when they go face-to-face with a powerful drug lord.
While the Austin-based art company Mondo unquestionably makes some of the most beautiful pop culture art around, there is a drawback to their normal sales system. They typically only have limited runs on their prints and sell out insanely quickly, meaning that unless you are by a computer when the art you want goes on sale (which happens at a random time) you are shit out of luck.
Mondo remains the source for the best, most creative new posters about old movies you love, but they're getting better and better at crafting remarkable art to surround new releases-- at least the new releases that stand a decent chance of becoming classics someday. The above poster you see, plus the variant and the additional design below, were all commissioned by Mondo on the occasion of Iron Man 3, and hardcore fans of the man in the suit will be able to celebrate the new movie by buying these posters on Friday
Olly Moss blogged on his own site about a pretty special Marvel gig that came with a unique reward. The artist was commissioned by Marvel President Kevin Feige and Marvel producer Craig Kyle to create exclusive one-sheet posters as parting gifts for the cast of Thor: The Dark World. In return, they paid Moss with his own movie-used Mjolnir.
As you can see from the fairly excellent Iron Man poster above, Marvel Studios, IMAX and Mondo have joined forces on this poster incentive for those who attend the midnight showing of Marvel's Iron Man 3 in IMAX on May 3rd. The poster depicts Iron Man himself, clearly on the rise, his head facing upward and his arms down in launch position. In the background, other ironclad heroes are also in flight, the mentioned "backup" featured at the end of the exciting trailer.
By following Mondoís Twitter page, youíll be alerted as to when the poster will go on sale at the official website. The launch time is completely random and only 425 prints will be made, so if this poster just has to be yours, then youíre going to need to pay close attention. Good luck. Now take your bag and go.
Doesn't it just bring all that powerful score and gorgeous New Zealand scenery right back? If seeing The Hobbit this weekend makes you feel a little bad, like you're cheating on Gimli with Thorin Oakenshield, these posters might be the best way to cure the guilt. Make sure you keep an eye on Mondo's twitter feed
By now you're surely already familiar with Mondo, the company behind some of the most innovative and beautiful poster designs around, for both classic films and new releases. Their newest partner comes from their partnership with Drafthouse Films, which will be releasing The Ambassador in New York on August 29 and Los Angeles on August 31
MONDO creative director Justin Ishmael hosted a screening of the classic '80's film The Goonies this weekend at the new Alamo Drafthouse Mainstreet in Kansas City, and ticket holders at the screening were given the opportunity to purchase a limited edition Goonies poster, done by artist Randy Ortiz. Check it out ahead and prepare yourselves for pirate!
The size of the poster is 24 x 36, and it will retail for $50. Itís a very cool poster, and one that doesnít have to be exclusive to Nolanís Rises. That looming figure of the Batman, protecting Gotham from a distance, could be from any decade in the crime-fighterís storied career.
