BREAKING MOVIE NEWS
Jackman's story sounds kind of fantastical given how incredibly popular he is, but having now attended San Diego Comic-Con for the last four years I can tell you that it's actually a fairly believable story. Between the insane crowds, all of the rushing around and the dank smell of nerd sweat that lingers in the air, it's occasionally hard to fully process your surroundings.
I learned the stench a mass of nerds camping out leaves. I felt the horrific annoyance of going through an exit and having to walk in a giant circle to get back to an entrance. For the first time, I truly took it all in.
Even though the surprise might have gotten a little spoiled, the arrival of the entire X-Men: Days of Future Past cast onstage at Comic-Con last Saturday was still a huge moment, inspiring the kind of emotional reactions in comics fans that are usually reserved for the Twilight screamers in Hall H (and hey, who says Ian McKellen doesn't deserve the Robert Pattinson treatment?)
Before all of the madness went down in Hall H, I had the chance to dig deep into the movie with the directors in a one-on-one interview a few hours before the big Marvel Studios panel. Check out our conversation below, in which the Russos talk about how the movie sets up the events in The Avengers 2, Black Widow’s ever changing morality, and more.
"I want you to remember, Clark…in all the years to come…in your most private moments…I want you to remember…my hand…at your throat…I want…you to remember…the one man who beat you."
Comic-Con 2013 is a wrap! Hopefully you were following along with our coverage as it happened at our hubs for movies and television-- but hey, maybe you had actual plans for your weekend. To close the books on the Con for good-- except for a few more interviews that will be popping up in the next few days-- here are the personal highlights of the Con from the people who were there, from big Hall H panels to kids dressed up in superhero costumes
Comic-Con is over, and all the biggest news from the event-- the new title for The Avengers 2, the role Benicio del Toro will play in Guardians of the Galaxy, the Superman-Batman showdown-- have been chewed over by us endlessly. But that doesn't mean it's not worth revisiting the hype and excitement one last time, by watching the entire Marvel Studios panel in the video above
This year's installment of San Diego Comic-Con has wound down, but that doesn't mean it's too late to relive all the memories. Just as we did for the first three days of the convention, we've got a roundup of the best costumes, signs, and everything else worth seeing on the final day of the convention. Bonus points if you can identify most of the costumes-- it's a lot harder than it seems
It wasn't a surprise that Guardians of the Galaxy showed up at Comic-Con-- as we've learned in the past, Marvel Studios is a big fan of pulling out the unexpected at Comic-Con, even bringing in the casts of movies that are currently in production on the other side of the globe. What was a surprise, though, is how much the very rough Guardians of the Galaxy footage blew the crowd away
Technically the appearance from the Guardians of the Galaxy cast at Comic-Con last night was a surprise, since they started shooting the film just two weeks ago all the way across the world in London. But Marvel Studios is famous not only for their surprises, but for going the extra mile to make it happen, so the entire cast and director James Gunn hopped on a plane from London to walk on to the Hall H stage and blow the crowd away with the earliest scraps of footage from their movie
The headline kind of says it all-- Tom Hiddleston took the stage at the very start of the Marvel panel at Comic-Con, dressed in full Loki regalia, and pulled a classic Loki move-- told the assembled crowd that they wanted to be ruled by him, and demanded their loyalty in exchange for "what you need."
Marvel Studios has done it again. Just like they have for the past few years, the comic book movie makers once again brought their A-game to Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con and managed to completely blow fans’ minds in the process.
For whatever reason, the jokes and the crazy stories were flying throughout the two sitdowns, which featured the casts of Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy. Of course, not all humor translates overly well when the moment is lost, but I’ve gone ahead and selected five quotes or stories that are pretty damn funny.
Who is The Collector? Oh, just an enormously powerful, billions of years-old being who can see the future and has a giant collection of priceless artifacts from across the galaxy-- hence the name. He also tends to tangle with the Avengers, at once point in the comics even forcing Iron Man to work on his side
We were pretty sure it was going to happen, but seeing it all roll out in real life was still pretty cool. The entire cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past-- including two versions of both Magneto and Professor X!-- took the stage at Comic-Con today, joined by Bryan Singer to give fans a first look at the massive superhero sequel due in theaters next year.
Andrew Garfield may be almost 30 years old, and he may be British, and he may not have been the random famous name we were eyeing when it came time to cast a new actor to play Spider-Man. But damned if he's not taking the character and running with it, not only turning in a performance in The Amazing Spider-Man...
The 20th Century Fox panel is a bit of a mystery at the moment. We know we'll see The Wolverine and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. But will Fox surprise us with X-Men and Fantastic Four news?
We’re still not entirely sure who’ll be on the Hunger Games panel, with the studio only teasing “talent” from the movie. You’d have to guess Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth will be in attendance, along with director Francis Lawrence.
The film in which Batman and Superman will finally meet, which Zack Snyder confirmed today at Comic-Con, is technically a sequel to Man of Steel, and that means there will be a lot of familiar faces returning who don't wear a black cowl. In a press release today Warner Bros. confirmed not only that Batman will appear in the film
We're just hours away from the start of the Warner Bros. Comic-Con panel, but it's never too late for a crazy rumor about what's in store! The LA Times has it from "two sources with knowledge of the movie" that Warner Bros. will be announcing a Superman and Batman team-up film, with plans for release in 2015
Gutierrez says the film will begin prepping in October, and they hope for a production start in the early months of 2014. I’m more excited about it now than I’ve ever been, but I still have my reservations.
Cobie Smulders is already Agent Maria Hill in the Marvel universe, and now she gets to be Wonder Woman! OK, technically she's only Wonder Woman in Lego form, as she's been added to the upcoming The Lego Movie, which broke the news during their Comic-Con panel today. She's not alone, either-- Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill are on board as well, with Tatum voicing Superman (of course) and Hill jumping in as the Green Lantern. Again, entirely in Lego form
Just as we did on Day 1 and Day 2, we've walked the floor to find the best costumes, props and other cool stuff brought by fans. Check out the gallery below and let us know your favorites! Keep coming back for much more Comic-Con coverage where that came from.
San Diego Comic-Con’s entire programming schedule is filled with great stuff from the film world – tons of which we’ve been seeing all this week – but there’s no question that Saturday is cinema’s biggest day with the throngs of geeks in Hall H. Just about every panel that comes through the convention center’s biggest space today will deliver sneak peeks at some of the biggest blockbusters coming up this year. And the party all starts with Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures showing what they got. God
Because X-Force is one of those Marvel teams that existed in several different versions, with characters such as Wolverine, Storm and Cyclops dropping in an out as they interacted with lesser-known characters such as Sunspot and Warpath, I wanted to know what version of the team Wadlow wanted to pursue. Specifically, I asked him about the importance of team leader Cable to his draft.
