Tom Hiddleston's Blunt Response To James Bond Rumors

The James Bond franchise is in a state of limbo at the moment. After the most recent film, Spectre, was met with mixed to negative reviews, everything seemed to halt. While James Bond movies are almost always financial winners, poor reception can really throw a wrench into an otherwise successful franchise. It was recently announced that director Sam Mendes was departing the Bond world, after directing both Skyfall and Spectre. To add to this chaos, Daniel Craig has been heavily rumored to be departing, meaning that the next Bond flick will need both a star and director.

With Daniel Craig’s announcement of departure being a dark cloud above the entire franchise, fans have been speculating possible replacements. Perhaps the most popular of these new Bonds is none other than Loki himself, Tom Hiddleston. Hiddleston recently appeared on a panel at Wizard World Philadelphia, where he was asked if he would be the next Bond:

I don’t think that announcement is coming, but I am very gratified to hear the enthusiasm. Your guess is as good as mine, to be honest.

Well this sucks. This statement, which comes to us from the folks over at ComicBook.com, is pretty damn depressing. Hiddleston doesn’t seem to think that he’ll be able to don Bond’s fancy tux and martini, despite fan outcry.

Tom Hiddleston’s comment could mean a few things for the future of James Bond. To start, it could simply mean that the head honchos of 007 could still be hoping that Daniel Craig would be returning for another movie. While Craig had originally stated that he’d rather slit his wrists than do another movie, I’m sure the right amount of money and/or story could convince the actor.

Alternatively, this could also mean that perhaps Tom Hiddleston simply didn’t get the part of James Bond, among his other competition. Bond is a character that any actors would kill to play, guaranteeing a ton of money and the opportunity for a lengthy film career. Major players have been rumored to be surrounding the project, including the always outstanding Idris Elba. With Tom Hiddleston’s intense involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, perhaps the folks at team Bond were worried his schedule would be a bit unruly.

Finally, Tom Hiddleston’s depressing statement could simply mean that all of the actors who are up for the role simply haven’t been informed of any casting announcements or offers. With Daniel Craig still on the verge of quitting the job, there are likely too many balls in the air to really lock it down with any new actor.

Do you want to see Tom Hiddleston as James Bond, or would you prefer another Daniel Craig movie? Sound off in the comments below.
