What Valkyrie Could Look Like In Thor: Ragnarok

Thor soon won't be the only superhero from Asgard in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Next year, Valkyrie will make her live action debut in Thor: Ragnarok, played by Tessa Thompson. The movie only started principal photography last week, so it may be a while until we see the Creed star in her costume. Until then, Thompson just posted a piece of artwork that could be a close match to what the Asgardian warrior may really look like on the big screen.

To kick off her first day of shooting, Tessa Thompson posted this fan art from Instagram user nikkolasdesign of what he thinks Valkyrie could look like in Thor: Ragnarok. He obviously does a cool job capturing her likeness in comic book style, and costume-wise, Thompson's Valkyrie is wearing a black body suit with armor plating around her neck and chest. The illustration is only from above the waist, but we'll assume that she's holding her trusty sword. Again, this isn't the official costume design, but we wouldn't be surprised if her actual duds end up somewhat resembling what this artist created. Maybe they could add a cape for extra flair.

Valkyrie was first rumored to appear in Thor: Ragnarok eight months ago, but Tessa Thompson's casting was reported this past April, and was eventually confirmed by Marvel. She is the latest female hero to be included in the MCU movies, following behind Black Widow, Scarlet Witch, Gamora, Lady Sif and more. Valkyrie will be Thor's new love interest, and while we don't know what's precisely in store for her in Thor: Ragnarok, it looks like she'll survive the story, as Thompson will reportedly appear in other Marvel movies. In the comics, Valkyrie has been a member of the Defenders and Secret Avengers, so perhaps when Phase Four begins (or even sometime during Avengers: Infinity War), she'll start hanging out on Earth more.

Thor: Ragnarok plot details are still scarce, but the God of Thunder's third movie will see him fighting Hela, the Asgardian goddess of death (played by Cate Blanchett) and likely trying to prevent the eponymous apocalyptic event from wiping out every living thing. In addition to Valkyrie, he'll also fight alongside his Avengers teammate Bruce Banner, a.k.a. The Hulk, who was last seen going into hiding in Avengers: Age of Ultron. The rest of the main cast includes Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, Anthony Hopkins as Odin, Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster and Karl Urban as Skurge the Executioner. Shooting is currently underway in Australia, and is expected to last until October.

Directed by Taika Waititi, Thor: Ragnarok storms into theaters on November 3, 2017.
