Watch Matt Damon Recap The First Three Bourne Movies In 90 Seconds

Jason Bourne comes out later this week, reuniting moviegoers with the eponymous protagonist after a nine year absence. In order to fully understand who Jason Bourne is and what he's experienced, naturally one should watch his previous movies: The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum. However, in case you don't have time for that, Matt Damon has you covered, as he's summarized those movies in 90 seconds. For any Aaron Cross fans out there, sorry, The Bourne Legacy is not mentioned.

The Bourne movies are packed with intricate details and quiet moments, but Matt Damon's recap video cuts out the filler and gets straight to the good stuff over a minute and a half. The Bourne Identity tracks Jason as he's fished out of the Mediterranean and is chased across Europe as he tries to figure out what happened to him. The Bourne Supremacy showed Jason jumping back into the game after his girlfriend Marie is killed to seek revenge, while also learning about the Russian politician he killed. Finally, The Bourne Ultimatum showed Jason battling Blackbriar and learning how he joined the Treadstone program, with the movie ending with in in the water, just like how The Bourne Identity began. Of course, I'm glossing over Damon's witty comments (like calling Karl Urban's character a "Russian dickhead"), but the video definitely provides the bare essentials of the previous installments in a short period.

Originally 2007's The Bourne Ultimatum was intended to be the final chapter of Jason Bourne's story, and 2012's The Bourne Legacy explored the aftermath of his actions through new badass agent Aaron Cross, played by Jeremy Renner. However, Matt Damon and director Paul Greengrass decided to return for Jason Bourne, following up on the spy's life years after finally remembering his past. However, as his ally Nicky Parsons (played by Julia Stiles) says in the new movie, remembering everything doesn't mean he knows everything. In Jason Bourne, he'll learn about the lies that convinced him to become a deadly operative, specifically pertaining to his father. Meanwhile, he'll be chased across several countries by the new U.S. government program Ironclad. In other words, same old, same old for Mr. Bourne. The movie's cast also includes Alicia Vikander, Tommy Lee Jones, Vincent Cassel, Riz Ahmed and more.

Jason Bourne finally hits theaters on Friday, and in case you have extra time on your hands, it definitely would be worthwhile to play the original three movies to get caught up to speed. Either way, you're now ready for the fifth installment!
