When The Avengers Will Team Up With The Guardians Of The Galaxy, According to Vin Diesel

Guardians of the Galaxy

When two superhero teams are operating in the same universe, it stands to reason that they'll eventually team up. When it comes to the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies (sorry, Defenders on Netflix), those main teams are the Avengers and the Guardians of the Galaxy. There have been rumblings and rumors about the two groups finally join forces in Avengers: Infinity War, but the powers that be have stayed mum on the subject. Now Vin Diesel, a.k.a. the voice of Groot, has revealed that the Guardians will indeed appear alongside Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the third Avengers flick.

During a Facebook Live session earlier today, Diesel addressed a picture of himself he posted several year back of him standing next to an Avengers comic book cover. Following the two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, Diesel told the masses that the Guardians will finally be teaming up with those same heroes. He said (via ScreenRant):

What's gonna be surreal is that picture is going to come to pass because now the Guardians will be included in Avengers: Infinity War and that's incredibly exciting.

It's worth mentioning that the presence of at least some of the Guardians of the Galaxy in Avengers: Infinity War doesn't come as a total surprise. Both Peter Quill, a.k.a. Star-Lord, and Rocket were previously alluded to appear in the movie earlier this year. Still, Vin Diesel's new comments confirm that the entire team will appear, which makes sense. With a group like that in a movie so massive in scale, the Avengers will need some help battling Thanos. After traveling battling evil on their own, they'll finally get to work with other superheroes, and it will be fun to see how their personalities clash with those of Earth's primary defenders.

Frankly, it would have been weirder not to include the Guardians in _Avengers: Infinity War_r. Not only do they have experience with one of the Infinity Stones, but Gamora is one of Thanos' "daughters." _Guardians of the Galaxy _director James Gunn has already said that the sequel won't feature Thanos or any Infinity Stones, so Infinity War is the next logical step to follow up on these connections. Before that happens, the Guardians will return next year after a three-year absence for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which will see Mantis, Yondu and Nebula joining the team, as well as characters like Ayesha, Taserface and Ego being introduced. Although that movie is expected to be another mostly self-contained adventure, surely there will be at least one hint dropped for why they have to head to "Terra," as the aliens call Earth.

You can see Star-Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot and Rocket back in action when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017, and Avengers: Infinity War will follow on May 4, 2018.
