What To Expect From Star-Lord And Ego In Guardians Of The Galaxy 2, According To Chris Pratt

Star-Lord Chris Pratt Guardians Of The Galaxy

The first Guardians of the Galaxy offered audiences one of the most tightly packed standalone stories ever to grace the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, the film still left some major dangling plot threads that needed to be addressed -- such as the mystery of Peter Quill's father, Ego the Living Planet. Luckily Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will take care of that. After years of searching for his dad, Star-Lord will finally cross paths with Ego, and it will apparently offer some of the upcoming film's most compelling drama. Chris Pratt explained what we can expect from this encounter:

You're going to see these characters having to endure the realities of being in a family. You're talking about a guy who's been longing to know who his father is for a long time. He'll discover if that person lives up to the expectations he has in his head.

While speaking with Empire about the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy sequel, Chris Pratt opened up about the introduction of Ego the Living Planet -- played in the film by Kurt Russell. The movie will lean heavily upon the theme of expectations, and whether or not Ego can even live up to the ideas that Peter Quill has developed about his father over the years. Star-Lord has searched high and low for this mysterious being for decades, but he probably never imagined his search would lead him to someone like Ego.

Ego the living planet

Luckily for Peter Quill, the process of meeting his old man will be made slightly easier because Ego won't actually take the form of a celestial, living planet in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. The version played by Kurt Russell will have a far more humanoid appearance, which should serve to dull the shock of meeting his father.

It seems that Star-Lord inherited Ego's sense of humor, because Empire also reports that footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con features a comical scene revolving around a debate as to whether or not Ego even has a penis. For your information: apparently he does, and he's become incredibly proud of it. Perhaps humor is the area where these two estranged family members will find common ground.

Cinema Blend will bring you all of the latest and greatest news related to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (as well as the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe) as more information as it becomes available. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will hit theaters next year on May 5, 2017. Stay tuned for more details.
