Watch Chris Pratt Try On Star-Lord’s Mask For The First Time

It's Friday, or, if you're connected to social media in any way, it's Flashback Friday! That means it's a day to remember things from our past, and James Gunn must be feeling a little nostalgic because he just posted something from Guardians of the Galaxy's pre-production. Today the director has shared a never-before-seen video of Chris Pratt trying on the Star-Lord helmet for the first time. Check it out below.

This little nugget comes courtesy of James Gunn, who shared this video on his Instagram page. The director of Guardians of the Galaxy was surprised when he stumbled upon footage from the first time Pratt tried on the Star-Lord helmet and was gracious enough to share it with the rest of us. The footage shows Gunn laughing while costume designers fiddle with it. It looks like it fits pretty well, but they seem to be in the middle of a conversation about how illogical it is to wear in the depths of space. (It doesn't protect the top of his head very well.) If you listen hard enough, you can barely hear Chris Pratt mumble something underneath his mask. The mask makes it much harder to hear him and I bet a lot of people would like to know why he's making that particular gesture.

Star-Lord has a pretty great look that goes mostly unchanged in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. That film will see Chris Pratt resume his breakout role as Star-Lord, who will team up with his fellow Guardians to protect the universe from any and all threats. The film sounds like it's pretty Star-Lord focused, and while the first film dealt with his mother issues, the sequel will have him meeting his long lost father. Said father is actually a giant living planet named Ego, played by Kurt Russell. Peter Quill will meet his father for the first time and presumably come to terms with being half planet.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is directed and written by James Gunn. Joining Chris Pratt in the cast is the returning Zoe Saldana as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax, Bradley Cooper as Rocket Raccoon and Vin Diesel as Groot. The Guardians will be getting some new additions to the team in the form of former frenemy, Yondu (Michael Rooker); regular enemy, Nebula (Karen Gillan); and newcomer, Mantis (Pom Klementieff). Rounding out the cast is Sylvester Stallone, Elizabeth Debicki, Chris Sullivan, and Glenn Close.

You can see Peter Quill, his cool mask and the rest of the team when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters on May 5, 2017. In the meantime, make sure to stay tuned to Cinema Blend, where we'll keep you updated on all Marvel news as soon as it becomes available.
