New Wolverine 3 Image Is Gory And Intense

It's currently New York Comic Con, which we all knows means that there're lots of new teasers and images for movies we really haven't seen anything from. Iron Fist, Power Rangers, and War for the Planet of the Apes are just a few that come to mind, but one of the biggest has to be Logan, the final outing for Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. The film has been rolling out new images all week, and now they're giving us a tease of the promised gory violence and it's worth the wait. Check it out.

This image comes from the Instagram of the film's official twitter wponx (as in Weapon X), which also has the two other official images released from Logan thus far. The image shows a dismembered arm clutching a shotgun on the dusty ground. By itself, it's really not much, but what's exciting about it is what it's teasing: serious violence. This isn't going to be your grandpa's Wolverine, and the image teases that there's lots more where that came from. It looks like Wolverine gets into a scrap that doesn't really work out for the guy holding the shotgun. We've seen Wolverine mess up goons before, but this movie is promising that we'll see a Wolverine who isn't holding back.

This level of violence should be expected, given that Logan will be an rated R superhero movie. People have wanted an R-rated Wolverine movie since the first X-Men hit theaters, but the character has always been strictly PG-13. Now thanks to the unexpected success of Deadpool, Fox feels safer giving it an R-rating and people are finally getting the violence that the clawed mutant is known for. Plus, lots more f-words!

So far Logan has released two other images. The first was of the second page of the script, which teased the language and non-CGI-heavy violence Wolverine would be getting into. It also teased a portion of a fight that's ending can probably be seen in the image above. The second image was a picture of a 90 something Charles Xavier, looking a little worse for wear. We don't know much about his role, but recent rumors claim that he's gone a little senile and is now under the care of Wolverine.

Logan is directed by James Mangold with a screenplay written by Michael Green and David James Kelly. Very little about the plot is known, but a poster for the movie seen at NYCC showed Logan holding hands with a little girl. Recent rumors claim that girl is a young X-23, Wolverine's female clone, and the plot will revolve around him trying to protect her. It's also speculated that Wolverine will have a de-powered healing factor, meaning he doesn't bounce back quite so fast from getting shot in the chest.

Logan is scheduled to hit theaters on March 3, 2017.
