Dave Bautista Addresses Avengers Vs X-Men Rumors

Dave Bautista Drax Guardians of the Galaxy

When it comes to silver screen adaptations of the Marvel mythos, one of the biggest issues that fans have come to lament is the issue of rights between studios. 20th Century Fox has access to the X-Men and Fantastic Four, while Marvel Studios has basically everything else. Are you hoping to see these two companies strike a deal so the X-Men and Avengers can duke it out for the very first time on the big screen? We've got some bad news; Dave Bautista doesn't think it's going to happen. The actor explained:

As a fan I would love to see it. Unfortunately it's always gonna be like that because the studios have a thing. X-Men vs. Avengers will probably never happen.

While making an appearance at this weekend's Heroes & Villains Fan Fest (via Comicbook.com) Dave Bautista addressed recent rumors about a potential crossover between the X-Men and Avengers on the big screen. The Guardians of the Galaxy actor admitted that he wants to see such an event take place, but he doesn't think that it's going to happen anytime soon -- or even at all. The rights issues between Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox have remained a nightmare for a number of years, and that doesn't seem poised to change in the near future.

These issues have become one of the biggest advantages for the competition in recent years. Unlike Marvel, DC has access to all of the characters (big and small) in its catalogue, which means they can make an adaptation of any character or any storyline they'd like. By contrast, Marvel has had to think a bit more creatively and make necessary changes to vital storylines (Civil War comes to mind) in order to accommodate characters they don't have access to.

That being said, we are optimistic that Dave Bautista might actually be wrong about this. Rumors associated with the Avengers: Infinity War production have indicated a possible (yet unconfirmed) reference to Doctor Doom in the upcoming Marvel team-up. If Marvel Studios actually manages to negotiate some sort of deal for the Fantastic Four rights, then it definitely lays the groundwork for the misunderstood mutants to finally meet Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Even if the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe never cross over with the mutants of the X-Men universe, there's still plenty of story left for both worlds to tell. Dave Bautista will return as Drax the Destroyer when Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hits theaters next summer on May 5, 2017. Stay tuned for more details!
