7 Amazing Things The Spider-Man: Homecoming Trailer Just Showed Us

Despite having limited screen time compared to the other participating superheroes, Tom Holland's Spider-Man was one of the best parts of Captain America: Civil War earlier this year, which of course made many moviegoers all the more excited for Spider-Man: Homecoming. Now with 2016 nearing its conclusion, the first official trailer for the Wall-Crawler's first solo adventure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe debuted on Jimmy Kimmel Live! tonight, and there was a lot to take in.

Striking a fine balance between action and comedy, the Spider-Man: Homecoming teaser trailer gave us our first idea of what an MCU Spider-Man movie will feel like. By now, I assume most of you have watched the trailer at least once, so let's dive into the coolest things the preview had to offer.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

The Thieving Avengers

As much fun as it is to watch Spider-Man battle super villains, sometimes it's nice to see him take on normal, everyday street criminals. Well, in this case, the bad guys do have two things distinguishing themselves from your normal band of robbers. One, they're armed with impressive technology, allowing them to easily cut into ATMs. Two, they're wearing masks "disguising" themselves as the Avengers. Nevertheless, even with their sci-fi toys and desire to give Earth's Mightiest Heroes a bad name, they're no match for the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, who easily defeats the group of ne'er-do-wells with his enchanted strength, agility and webs. They're down for the count, but that still begs the question of where they obtained that technology. Perhaps from someone who likes to tinker?

Spider-Man: Homecoming Zendaya

Zendaya

Ever since Zendaya was cast in Spider-Man: Homecoming, fans have been wondering who her mysterious Michelle character is supposed to be. It was briefly rumored that she's supposed to be Mary Jane Watson, but if that's true, then this is an extremely radical adaptation of her. She briefly pops up in the trailer to call Peter Parker and Ned Leeds "losers" after they stared way too long at classmate Liz Allan. An appropriate comment to be sure, but sadly, this didn't clear up how she'll be involved in the story. That said, given the way she looks above, it's extremely doubtful she's actually Mary Jane.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Peter Accidentally Reveals His Identity

Peter Parker is still early into his crimefighting career, so needless to say he's trying his best to keep his Spider-Man life and Peter Parker life separated. Still, it was only a matter of time before one of his close family members or friends learned the truth (and yet Tony Stark still beat them to the punch). In the trailer, we see the first lucky individual is Peter's best friend Ned Leeds, who sees Peter crawling on the ceiling, causing Ned to drop what looks like his Death Star Lego model. Peter tries to explain it away, but that won't cut it. The cat's out of the bag, and Ned is now in on Peter's life as Spider-Man.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Vulture

Here he is, folks! Michael Keaton as The Vulture! Until now, his most notable contribution to the superhero movie genre was playing Batman in two movies, but now he's the man playing Adrian Toomes in live action for the first time, his second bird-themed role in the last couple years. If you only take one thing away from seeing him in the Spider-Man: Homecoming teaser trailer, let it be this: his flight suit looks amazing in action, and it will have a lot of destructive potential. Judging by the sci-fi technology seen earlier and some dialogue from the international trailer, it looks like the MCU's Vulture is affiliated or perhaps leading a group of criminals who have obtained dangerous gizmos (and possibly reverse-engineered from alien tech) for their illegal endeavors. These should certainly give him a leg up on the competition.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Shocker?

This moment lasts just a second, but it possibly gives us our first look at one of Spider-Man: Homecoming's supporting villains, The Shocker. The man shooting that energy blast looks like Logan Marshall-Green, who was reported to be playing an antagonist. Not only that, but he's wearing a yellow, waffle-pattern shirt, which is the same costume design Shocker has in the comics. That points towards Marshall-Green definitely playing the MCU's Shocker, right? Not so fast, because in the international trailer, Bokeem Woodbine is seen not only using a similar energy weapon, but also wearing a yellow shirt. As it weird as it sounds, this could mean that Spider-Man: Homecoming will have multiple Shockers. Going back to that quick snippet from the main trailer, we also see Donald Glover's character, showing that whoever he's playing is connected to these criminals.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

An Amazing Web Feat

Spider-Man has pulled off a lot of amazing (pun intended) feats with his webs in the movies. My favorite is when he used them to stop that train in 2004's Spider-Man 2. However, even without having seen Spider-Man: Homecoming yet, the feat shown in this trailer comes in at a close second, as we see Spidey keeping two halves of a split Staten Island ferry from sinking into the water. Whether it's the Vulture responsible for this attack or one of the other goons, we have no doubt that the Web-Slinger will be successful in making sure the boat's occupants don't die, even if it means having to let the bad guy(s) temporarily escape.

Spider-Man: Homecoming

Spidey And Iron Man

We've known for many months that Robert Downey Jr. would reprise Tony Stark in Spider-Man: Homecoming, and this trailer confirmed he'll still be acting as a mentor to young Peter Parker, albeit not one into hugging. However, just as the trailer ends, Spidey is shown swinging through New York with Tony armored up. That's right, the billionaire industrialist will be suiting up as Iron Man during the movie. Whether it's to help Peter battle the Vulture or just to go out for a joyride with him remains to be revealed, but either way, we're beyond thrilled to see the two of them together again in their superhero guises following their shenanigans in Captain America: Civil War.
