New Spider-Man: Homecoming Footage Shows An Important Character In Real Danger

We already know that Jon Watts' Spider-Man: Homecoming will follow our favorite wall crawling hero as he traverses the problems that all teenagers inevitably face, including: puberty, homework, and young love. That being said, young love is even more difficult to deal with when there's a flying villain trying to kill the girl. A new international TV spot for Spider-Man: Homecoming has officially debuted, and it shows Laura Harrier's Liz Allan in grave danger. Check it out below.

Although that trailer is primarily comprised of footage seen in the first Homecoming preview (which dropped earlier this month) there is one specific moment that immediately jumps out at us. At the 21-second mark we get a very quick shot of Liz Allan (the red sweater from the domestic trailer gives it away) falling, followed by another brief shot of Spidey trying to rescue her with his webbing. We know that a portion of Homecoming's story will take place in Washington D.C. and it seems (based on the editing of the trailer) that this rescue sequence may actually take place at the Washington Monument. Worst class trip ever.

The shot of Liz falling is obviously incredibly quick in the trailer, so check out a still of the sequence below for a better look:

Spider-Man Homecoming Liz Allan

We aren't exactly surprised to see something like this in the Homecoming trailer. Spider-Man is one of the most aerial heroes in the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe, and catching falling love interests is one of the most common and iconic Spider-Man tropes of all time. He does it in pretty much every single one of his movies -- sometimes successfully, and sometimes unsuccessfully.

Despite the inherent intensity of the scene, I have a very distinct feeling that this will probably have a happy ending when we finally get the chance to see Spider-Man: Homecoming. Fans of Peter Parker obviously already know that he has a hit or miss record when it comes to catching the women he loves (Gwen Stacy immediately comes to mind) but the recent events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 have us thinking that Marvel and Sony will wait to recreate that deadly scene. It seems likely that they would take longer to build up Liz as a character before killing her so quickly and brutally.

Of course, maybe we're wrong and Homecoming will take an incredibly dark turn. That would definitely help sell the scale of the threat posed by Michael Keaton's Vulture. We will just have to wait and see how this action sequence pans out when the Web Head's solo movie finally debuts. Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters this summer on July 7, 2017. Stay tuned for more details!
