What's Actually On Star-Lord's Shirt, According To Chris Pratt

The latest trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is absolutely jam-packed with hilarious moments and bizarre set pieces, but there's one pressing question that has us all stumped: what the hell is on Star-Lord's shirt? It looks like a graphic tee that a hipster would wear (albeit in an alien language), and it turns out that such a description is actually pretty accurate. In fact, Chris Pratt was asked if he could explain the meaning of his bizarre shirt during a recent Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set visit, and he revealed that it's nothing more than an ironic advertisement for an alien candy. The Star-Lord actor said:

I can't. Somebody can, because it's a real language apparently. They've created a real alphabet, but it's from, I think, I might be making this up, but I think it's from the candy, a candy wrapper from the first movie. It's like, this is like a space brand of some kind, so it's like on my shirt the way anyone, it would be like wearing an ironic Reeses Pieces shirt.

So even after saving the galaxy from Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) during the events of the first film, it is pretty clear that Peter Quill has not grown up too much. This makes sense, as the Guardians of the Galaxy are not necessarily known for wearing the most tactical gear in the universe. After all, Drax (Dave Bautista)) is half-naked most of the time, and Groot (Vin Diesel) literally wears nothing when they go on their missions -- but Star-Lord at least chooses to make a fashion statement by wearing an ironic candy shirt.

It's not the most practical article of clothing for Star-Lord to wear in combat, so let's hope that he doesn't get hurt because of his fashion choices. Then again, taking the insane box office performance of the first movie into account, it would make plenty of sense for James Gunn and the crew behind the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe adventure to double down on everything that audiences loved about it in the first place. Safety be damned!

This development also kind of makes you wonder where he got that shirt in the first place, right? Do you think they have some cosmic Urban Outfitters in the Guardians' corner of the galaxy? Considering all of the other irreverent and bizarre things that James Gunn has managed to pack into these movies, I would not be surprised.

As always, CinemaBlend will bring you any and all relevant updates related to the upcoming release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as new details become available to us. James Gunn's band of badass misfits will return to the silver screen later this year on May 5. Stay tuned for more details!
