When Frozen 2 Is Finally Going To Come Out

Elsa and Anna hugging in Frozen

Frozen was not only one of 2013's biggest movie hits, it still ranks as one of Disney's biggest successes ever. Even with its powerhouse critical and commercial performance, though, Disney waited over a year before officially announcing a sequel. Details are still scarce on what to expect from Elsa, Anna and the rest of the gang in Frozen 2, but now we finally have the answer about when they'll return to the big screen for their next adventure: November 27, 2019.

Disney dropped a heap of new release date information today, and that included that Frozen 2 will arrive in theaters in November of 2019. To make the announcement extra special, the Disney Animation social media team used Olaf to break the big news to the masses.

Before now, the only major Frozen 2 news that had been disclosed to the public was that Kristen Bell, Indina Menzel and Josh Gad would reprise Anna, Elsa and Olaf, respectively. No plot details have been revealed yet, but with the first movie ending with Elsa undoing the wintery damage she accidentally inflicted on Arendelle and reconciling with her sister Anna, at least the two heroines will start out the sequel being on much better terms with one another. While having a date set for Frozen 2 is welcome, the fact that it's still over two years away means it's unlikely that Disney will reveal specific information about the movie anytime soon. Heck, we might even have to wait until later in 2018 to learn something important.

Even though it's been over three years since Frozen 2 hit theaters, the characters haven't been entirely absent from screens. The short film Frozen Fever was attached to the release of the live action Cinderella remake in 2015, and a holiday special will premiere on ABC in 2017, titled Olaf's Frozen Adventure. Once Upon a Time also featured live action versions of Elsa and Anna in its fourth season, played by Georgina Haig and Elizabeth Lail.

Frozen 2 wasn't the only major date news that came from Disney. The other big announcements included Ralph Breaks The Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 being moved to November 21, 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX coming out on May 24, 2019, Jon Favreau's Lion King coming out on July 19, 2019, Indiana Jones 5 being delayed until July 10, 2020 and Gigantic (a fellow Disney Animation release) being delayed until November 25, 2020. Clearly the House of Mouse went through quite the shuffle.

While we wait for more information of Frozen 2, don't forget to check out the updated schedule on when Disney Animation's upcoming movies are coming out.
