cara delevingne with long hair

It's been quite the trend over the past few months for female celebrities to crop off their hair. Since this summer has been a particularly hot one in many parts of the country, those celebrities certainly picked a good year to lob off their luscious locks. One of the actresses who cut off nearly all of her hair was Cara Delevingne, who initially went with a buzz cut for a movie gig. However, she now says she's really happy she shaved her head for Life in a Year, noting,

It's nice to not have to maintain your hair. We all get attachment to hair but it's just hair. It grows back. I feel like I definitely was more aware that you could pretty much hide behind your hair, but it was really liberating to realize that you don't need hair to be beautiful and to feel like a woman.

If you've been keeping tabs on the Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets star lately, you may have already noticed that her hair has grown out a little bit and is not longer the buzz cut she initially sported last month. However, the original look was edgy and we can see how it made Cara Delevingne think about her hair in a way she hadn't done in the time before.

So, why exactly did Cara Delevingne cut her hair off in the first place when she could have easily tried on a bald cap or something else for the role? The actress told USA Today exactly why she opted to follow a trend set by the likes of Katy Perry and Kristen Stewart.

When I did it for the part, I really wanted to be as dedicated and as authentic as I could be to the character.

In Life in a Year, the actress plays a young woman who is terminally ill. Her boyfriend, played by Jaden Smith, will spend that year trying to help her live a very full life in a very short amount of time. Because terminally ill people sometimes undergo treatment that causes them to lose their hair, it makes sense that Delevingne's character would shed her locks in the movie.

By the time Life in a Year comes out, Cara Delevingne will doubtless have fairly long hair again, and her buzzcut will only be a faded memory. The movie isn't set to hit theaters until sometime in 2018, and we'll let you know as soon as it gets a release date. In the meantime, be sure to take a look at our full movies schedule for this year, to see what is coming up.
