How Nebula Will Change In Avengers: Infinity War, According To Karen Gillan

Nebula in Guardians 2

It's hard to believe, but we're just a few Marvel films away from the giant ensemble project Avengers: Infinity War. The third Avengers film will find the Russo Brothers uniting all of the MCU's heroes, as they battle against the planet killer Thanos and his forces. Fans of the franchise are thrilled to see so many characters crossing over, especially seeing the Guardians of the Galaxy finally meeting the heroes from Earth. And aside from the bonafide members of the Guardians, Gamora's sister Nebula will also be showing up in Infinity War, and she'll apparently have a new scene partner to play off of. Actress Karen Gillan recently revealed:

I know who her new BFF is, and I can't tell you. I can't. I promise you it's brilliant and unexpected and just so good... I don't know about any frenemies. She is on a clear mission, as everybody is, to deal with someone with a glove, and I think that is the most important issue. So I think people are grouping together to take care of this task.

It looks like Nebula will be interacting with someone other than Gamora for once, and it's someone who shares the goal of killing Thanos and saving both Earth and the Galaxy as a whole. And while Karen Gillan's statement to Fandango are appropriately vague, the time has come to wildly speculate as to who her BFF is going to be... ff.

While I'd first love to see Black Widow and Nebula team up in the battle against Thanos, that choice be a bit too on the nose. After all, Karen Gillan teased that it was unexpected. Plus, Black Widow will likely have the majority of her screen time spent mediating the prickly relationship that Iron Man and Captain American currently share, so she'll have her hands full in Infinity War.

As far as unexpected team ups go, I think one of the more comedic characters would be a great match for Nebula's BFF. It would be great to see her no nonsense attitude paired with someone like Ant-Man or Spider-Man, who are constantly cracking jokes and are part of some of the MCU's funniest installments. These pairings would have the opportunity to create plenty of moments of levity, as Nebula will not pick up on the American sense of humor that both of them are so famous for. And on the Spider-Man side of things, she'd probably be confused as to why their mission is dependent on a small boy.

Alas, we'll just have to wait just a few months shy of a year to find out where the chips fall. Until then, we'll just have to continue speculating wildly and hoping that the Comic-Con footage is finally released to the masses.

Avengers: Infinity War will arrive in theaters on May 4, 2018. In the meantime, check out our 2017 release list to plan your next trip to the movies.
