6 Big Directions Pirates Of The Caribbean 6 Could Go In

While the most recent Pirates of the Caribbean movie teased us that it was the "final adventure," it recently came out that the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, signed on for two movies, not just the one they made, which means that at least one more Pirates movie is potentially in the cards. Considering how much money the last movie actually made, such a film isn't just possible, it's likely.

But in large part, the last film wrapped up the franchise, didn't it? Well, not entirely. There are still plenty of places where a sixth film could potentially go. Here are a few ideas for possible starting points for Pirates of the Caribbean 6: Incredibly Long Subtitle Here.

Davy Jones

Davy Jones

The most obvious place is to go is where the last movie's post-credits sequence teased. In that scene, we saw a newly free Will Turner have a nightmare that Davy Jones had returned. While he thought it was a dream, we know that this wasn't entirely the case. Perhaps the destruction of the Trident of Poseidon, which seemingly ended all curses, had the side effect of bringing back to life a man who had died via a curse. If so, seeking vengeance on those who killed him wouldn't be that surprising. Though, if the curse is actually broken, perhaps Bill Nighy doesn't have to get covered in CGI and prosthetics.

Jack Sparrow voodoo doll

Angelica and the Jack Sparrow Voodoo Doll

For the most part, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales liked to pretend that the previous film had never happened. While we completely understand that, the fact is that On Stranger Tides did leave a couple of openings for more story. The post-credits sequence of that movie saw Blackbeard's daughter Angelica, played by Penelope Cruz, marooned on an island, but in possession of a voodoo doll of Captain Jack Sparrow. Since a voodoo doll isn't technically a curse, it should still work just fine, and if she ever decides to use it, Jack will need help getting it back.

Carina Kaya Scodelario

Carina Barbossa - Mighty Pirate

Kaya Scodelario was the one who revealed that a new Pirates of the Caribbean movie could happen, and in doing so she revealed a great place for such a film to start. Carina could take over as the newest Barbossa to be the scourge of the high seas. As a new pirate, however, she could certainly come up against something that's more than she can handle, leading to her needing to bring in outside assistance, like Henry Turner and Jack Sparrow. Perhaps combining this idea with the previous one we can see two female pirate captains go head-to-head. That's could certainly work.

Mermaids

Mermaids

In addition to the open-ended question of what happened to Angelica, Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides also left the fate of missionary Philip Swift and the mermaid Syrena ambiguous. It seems clear that, had On Stranger Tides been better received, this would have been dealt with in a direct sequel. What exactly is the story behind mermaids? Where the hell did Philip and Syrena swim off to? What the answers to these questions are is anybody's guess, but it could obviously be a direction a new movie could go in. In mythology, mermaids are closely related to the god Poseidon. How did the destruction of his Trident impact them?

Jack Sparrow with Compass

The Compass Problem

In the newest Pirates movie, we see Jack Sparrow receive his magically endowed compass from his former captain, a compass which would go on to become a major element in the rest of Jack Sparrow's life. The problem is, in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, we're told that Sparrow received the compass in a barter with the sea witch Tia Dalma. This appears to be a continuity error, but there's one possible way that it isn't. Perhaps Jack lost the compass after being given it, and then had to barter in order to get it back. Perhaps there's a story there as to how it was lost, that could once again come back to be a problem for Jack Sparrow.

Pirate Court

The Brethren Court

In the third Pirates of the Caribbean film, we're introduced to the Brethren Court. Elizabeth Swann becomes the court's leader, a position which, one assumes, she still holds. If Keira Knightley was willing to return for a larger role in the next film, following her cameo in the last film, we could see the court take center stage in another adventure. Geoffrey Rush's Barbossa was a member of the court, but with him gone, there's an empty seat at the table. It's possible his daughter could take the spot, but it's doubtful that a bunch of pirates would accept bloodline succession. There's also the minor detail that Carina doesn't really have any proof who her father was. A Pirate power vacuum could get ugly.
